Remember me?  Yeah, neither do I!

Summer in my dayjob gets to be incredibly hectic.  So does the end of the year.  Basically, right now may be the most quiet time I have all year, and it might go another week or two before it becomes a mad scramble again.  Honestly, I’m getting too old for this much jamming on stressful crap, and I’m only 54.  I’m seriously thinking about making my boss an offer to cut back the time that I spend at the office instead of giving me a raise.  As long as I can get my insurance, I don’t really care.  Well, I care.  I definitely do, or these deadlines would just fly by and I’d say, “Meh, who cares?”

Yes, yes back to quilting!

So what have I been doing lately?  Loads of things like getting the longarm migrated from the ultra-chilly or ultra-hot garage into Spare Oom.  (If this rings bells, it’s from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe in which Lucy travelled to Narnia from the land of War Drobe in the Spare Oom, according to Mr. Tumnus.  I digress, as usual.)  Spare Oom was once my daughter’s room, then was used as a Buddhist shrine room/guest room, and it is now my magical Longarm Oom.  I’m still getting it organized properly in my spare (ha!) time, but mostly I clean, oil, thread, and quilt in there at every opportunity.  Organizing will come more slowly…like when I need to find that one cone of thread.

Below are some photographic highlights of my summer.  Please note that they are all related to sewing.  Other things have been done.  I’ve made dinner a couple of times.  Had the sink fixed.  Watched some TV (while sewing) and planned more quilts.  Oh, and I impulsively bought a spiffy new thing I’m not ready to talk about until I get somewhat good at it.  It’s too much of a distraction from my longarm, though, so it may stay a half-learned thing for a while.

How’s your summer been?  I hope it’s been a really good one.  I hope you’ve had time to accomplish all the things you want to.  If not, try not to be too hard on yourself.  I struggle with my own need to do ALL THE THINGS, RIGHT NOW and then wind up overwhelmed and depressed.  Don’t do that.

  1. Your quilting and doodling look amazing. I know what you mean by feeling overwhelmed at times. I’ve gotten less done than I had hoped for this summer myself but I’m just trying to let go of my expectaions.

  2. Hi Cate! What is it that you do in your day job that takes you away from all things quilting, and makes you so stressed? Your longarm oom looks like it has a fabulous setup, and your quilting looks great! Don’t you find that just going in your oom lets you get away from all the other stuff and just decompress?! Happy Tuesday! ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. Ah! I tried to follow your blog after your comment but my WP was being silly but I finally figured it out. Be joining you in Colorado someday! I am looking forward to getting to know the Colorado quilting community!
